Such a terrible movie.
A. It tries to make an action film arty by intersecting documentary footage during every scene. Just awful.
B. She shows zero regard for human life during car chases, yet can't be bothered to kill the actual bad guys.
C. Take A & B and repeat until she becomes a human flash drive and it's all over.
"Life was given to us a Billion years ago...now you know what to do with it."
Don't waste it going to a movie theatre to watch garbage like Lucy. This was a pathetic waste of time and money to make and was designed to fill seats and sell popcorn to simple minded people. Johansson's mono tone simpleton delivery sums it up. ..and Morgan Freeman's arrogant voodoo science delivery tops it off. What a waste of time, money, and resources...they should have given the money to the homeless instead.
The special effects were certainly "over the top", but not a bad movie...and not a really good one either.
A bit of fun! You didn't really know how the movie was going to pan out and also good to see Scarlett in a leading action film role. The movie ended abruptly and asking what next?
I really liked Scarlett Johansson in this sci-fi, action thriller. I felt like I was watching a modern, fictional story based on "What the Bleep Do We Know."
The movie opens with our main character, Lucy, getting pulled into a terrible deal. She is forced into a terrifying underground world of drugs and money. Something goes wrong and the chemicals that have been placed into Lucy begin to expand her mental power. What if the human race could use more then 10% of their brain? Lucy may be the answer. With wonderful performances from Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman this fast pace movie is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Typical Luc Besson movie-- short on plot & character development and long on action sequences, car chases, and gratuitous violence. Cool to see Scarlett J. as the action hero, but farcical plot that a new drug can cause one to "use 100% of our brain" (and thus know what will happen in the future)-- huh??!? even writing this sounds silly. But apparently not to Besson and the producers.
Unfortunately, a lot of viewers have forgotten that the entire movie/media industry's purpose is to replace the 'Bread and Circus' philosophy of the old Roman era wherein the grim reaper reigned supreme and the nobles would give bread to the commoners when they attended the provided slaughters. The 'sheep' have won out over the lions these days, so let it go and just enjoy the friggin inanity of it all as the purpose is to keep us entertained and relatively peaceful. That way we won't
'challenge' the actions of our overseers, okay? Get over it!
What started as a promising thriller, turns halfway in, to a silly , overblown mess!
It had me for about 1/2 of the way, then it got too weird. In my opinion a little plot tweaking would have made it more of an action rather than sci-fi movie.
Just put up with the first half-hour unusualness, then let your mind go and enjoy the concept. Just ask yourself, what would I have done if I in her situation? Makes you think about life a bit.
I went to the movies to watch it, and i enjoyed pretty much, at the end i didnt wanted to end.. does it will be a second part?
I enjoyed this fantasy/action movie. Suspend reality and sit back and enjoy. It made these last dreary days of Winter pass a bit easier. Isn't that what movies are really supposed to do anyway?
Good acting, bad movie, bad plot. It is an uneducated (on the subject) fantasy of one man. So put aside the science, the movie itself is not well made. Fast pace, but most of the time does not make sense. The subject discussed is not even new, a more memorable movie about the same subject matter is "Phenomenal" with John Travolta made during the 80's. The plot and whatever the director wanted to say is too shallow to make a point in the movie.I only got attracted by the 2 main actors, Scarlett (who did an exceptional job) and Morgan Freeman (who is great and can hold his own as usual). I am so glad I do not pay to watch this movie.
Recently watched Lucy, with a terrific. Scarlet Johansen playing the lead. She's a standout actress, who knows how to work off her peers.Morgan Freeman and cast do a credible job.The movie car chase scenes are wild and exciting,The scifi element also works well, incl the lead Japanese gangster character. Credit the director for bringing it all together.
Johansson finally got herself a decent role in this super action sci-fi that explored possibilities of the human brain when firing on all cylinders, such as telepathy, telekinesis, remote viewing, mind over matter, solutions to Grand Unified Theory, reversible Arrow of Time etc. (""Ask the Brains" article in Scientific America suggested a human brain has storage capacity of 2.5 petabytes, enough to hold three million hours of TV shows. At 2 hours average run time, that equals 1.5 million full length movies, or streaming netflix movies non stop for 300 years.)
A dumb, pointless movie. You're telling me if I "unlock my full brain potential", I pretty much become a deity? It's silly and the pseudoscience they use to sell it to you is bad. Couldn't enjoy it even as a fun, brainless action movie. Avoid this.
Starts out as an shoot 'em up action film, but transfers into an ambitious SciFi story, wrapped in an action movie. Unfortunately, the film doesn't bridge both worlds extremely well. The action is stuff we have all seen before and the SciFi topic was pretty good, but it probably should be seen on the big screen (as a previous reviewer mentioned). It's an OK watch, but nothing to write home about. ScarJo & MorFree are effective in their roles.
I really dug this flick. If the matrix and 2001 were to have offspring, this would be the natural result.
The Movie started out Great ! Action ! but somewhere in the middle to last , it got awful !!
This ambitious film reaches just beyond the edges of believability, but if a viewer can keep expectations in check, he/she may find that the film makers accomplished a large measure of the enormous breadth that they undertook. It's a lot to try to explain the limits of mankind and the makeup of our universe. It WAS mostly credible and great fun! Great cast!
