The failure of the Oslo Accords to bring peace to Palestine and Israel is commonly blamed on Palestinian intransigence. Arguing that Israel never intended to withdraw from the occupied territories, Rubenberg (former professor of political science, Florida International U.) argues that the failure of the Oslo "peace process" is due to the very structure of the process, in which Israel's interests were protected while the interests of Palestinians were left open in both time and interpretation, when they were not simply omitted. She also describes the economic and social devastation that the occupation has brought to the Palestinians and looks critically at the central role of the United States in the failure of Oslo.
