I like this series, and Commissario Brunetti is a good man, but this is book is darker than most. In this book, it is evident that most people in power take action only when it benefits them personally and/or politically; no one but Brunetti appears to care about what is right and just. This is discouraging, as it feels like the US is headed the same direction.
