A great book. Too sad that it is the only one from this author.

A good southern lit story of an Arkansas family in the 50's. Full of likeable characters. A solid enjoyable read.

I just soaked up this novel and the family portrayed in it. Through after effects of war, job loss, finding meaning of self and family, I found every character, but one changed by the end, and I also appreciated Samuel Lake's ongoing search for God's will and the ending outcome.

Off the charts fantastic. Your stomach will clench in fear of Ras Ballenger! This is a total page burner that you will not be able to put down! A definite must read.
