The Himalayas are defined by superlatives. They defy both description and comprehension while at the same time teaching us about the awesome power and grandeur of nature. Born during the ice ages, they form the highest mountain range in the world, and reach across Asia for two thousand miles. The mountains themselves are considered sacred. These are mountains that will take your breath away!

A brief but enjoyable look at the wildlife found in the Himalayas.

Not a very good documentary. This is an episode of the PBS show "Nature" but with only an hour how can you do a wide subject like "The Himalayas" justice? The answer is that you can't. So because it has to jump around so much you never really learn much about the geography, geology, ecology, people, etc. The other negative is that because this show was co-produced by the BBC it uses a bunch of footage from the Planet Earth series. Which, while the footage is cool, if you've seen Planet Earth already it is pretty repetitive (the snow leopard and geese scenes for example). Don't get me wrong, it is entertaining, just not very educational.

Highly recommended. An examination of the wildlife, people, and region of the highest mountains on Earth.
