Baker & Taylor
In the wake of series of bizarre murders in which claw prints are found near each of the victims, agent Pendergast teams up with officer Vincent d'Agosta in an investigation with apparent ties to the supernatural that takes them from the luxury estates of Long Island to the castles of Italy. 150,000 first printing.

Blackwell North Amer
Behind the gates of a fabulous Hampton estate, FBI Special Agent Pendergast discovers the carnage of a gruesome crime - a nightmare of seemingly supernatural origin. The smoldering remains of infamous art critic Jeremy Grove, a melted cross branding his chest, are found in a locked, barricated attic. The hoofprint singed into the floorboards and the smell of brimstone recall the legendary horrors that befall those who make a pact with the devil.
Reuniting with police officers Vincent D'Agosta and Laura Hayward, Pendergast combs New York hoping for a simple explanation: a villain who is merely a man. But his search takes him beyond the exclusive clubs and luxury penthouses of Manhattan to a crumbling, legend-shrouded castle in the Italian countryside, where thirty years ago four men conjured something...unspeakable.

Brimstone --- written by --- Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. The duo of Preston and Child (don’t they sound more like a law firm than a team of authors) have pulled it off again. For me, they represent a couple of recent discoveries, but not for others. There are reams of reviews of their books on the net. They sure have their followers and I’m to be counted as one of them. Their novels have a distinctly Dan Brownish taste to them. Brimstone, as you might expect, is a novel of diabolically horrific proportions featuring superbly clever Rolls Royce- driving private investigators; doggedly persevering uniformed cops from the NYPD; wicked Counts bent on recovering a priceless heirloom who are certain they can resort to any means, however wicked to recover what the claim is rightfully theirs. Stir in a gorgeous lady cop; a brimstone spouting evangelist; and a desperate newspaper reporter and you’ve got the elements for an exciting, page turning and highly engaging novel. Its a fast read, in parts a breath taking read. And for the more squeamish amongst you, you may want to leave the lights on.

As usual, very well written and very well researched. Not one of their best, though, but Agent Pendergast and company are such a great array of characters that you can almost overlook most flaws

Sounds mor exciting than it odd as it is for a Preston & Child book, this one really drags.
