Mrs Queen Takes the Train wittily imagines the kerfuffle that transpires when a bored Queen Elizabeth strolls out of the palace in search of a little fun, leaving behind a desperate team of courtiers who must find the missing Windsor before a national scandal erupts. Reminiscent of Alan Bennett's The Uncommon Reader, this lively, wonderfully inventive romp takes readers into the mind of the grand matriarch of Britain's Royal Family, bringing us an endearing runaway Queen Elizabeth on the town -- and leading us behind the Buckingham Palace walls and into the upstairs/downstairs spaces of England's monarchy.

Findaway World Llc

William Kuhn's delightful fictional debut features an endearing runaway Queen Elizabeth on the town.

Earphones Award Winner. "Simon Prebble gives an impeccable performance in this story about Queen Elizabeth's spontaneous and unescorted journey on a train, which throws the staff of the Royal Household into chaos... Prebble's pacing with the Queen's soft-spoken, intentional speech is spot-on, as are his flawless transitions from one character's accent to the next. His intentionally exaggerated American and Indian accents and his rendering of the subtle differences between various English accents make a charming story even more entertaining. A sweet treat for Anglophiles." - AudioFile Magazine

When Queen Elizabeth, disguised in a hoodie, sneaks out of Buckingham Palace to escape her duties for a little while, an unlikely sextet of royal attendants team up to find their missing monarch and bring her back before her absence sets off a national scandal.

A charming and humorous book. The Queen gains some valuable insights when she escapes from her royal routine and restrictions. As a woman in my later years, I appreciated the joys and angst that living a long and full life involves. Some deep truths hide within the humor and adventure of this "easy reading" story. I wish our library system had more books by this author.

Disappointed. I was hoping this would be as clever as The Uncommon Reader, but this writer has a ways to go before he matches Alan Bennett.

Mrs. Queen Takes the Train was a very interesting audiobook. It was entertaining and easy to listen to. I recommend it if you want something that is fun and easy to listen to. It was very funny at times and the narrator does a good job.

Everything I like about Downton Abbey and Upstair Downstairs I found in this book. Plus a little more.

The narrator, Simon Prebble, does a wonderful job.
