This was one of History's baddest dudes. He was truly BRUTAL! Like many villains he had incredible good luck. His invasion just happened to take place at the height of an Inca civil war so he was able to trick one side into thinking he was going to help their cause. Then when they had won Pizarro treacherously TAKES OVER! The ruthless brutality he subjects the Inca people to is unfortunately all too common in the sorry annuls of human history.
I learned a lot from this book. I thought I knew well the Pizarro story and the story of the conquest of the Inca Empire but this book had many details I did not remember. While it is good for younger readers and is published by Scholastic and seems written for learning readers John DiConsiglio does not write down to his readers. This book tells it like it was and does not try to nice up history. As an older mature person I enjoyed reading it very much. This would be a good book for ESL (English as a Second language) students to read and enjoy especially people from Spanish speaking countries that are likely already familiar with Pizarro which might help their comprehension as they read a familiar story in their new language.
