How can one not like reading about the inhabitants of Scotland Street. And sadly I like Bertie’s mother no more in this book. I hope she disappears again, so the rest of the characters can live happily ever after. This is a series I suggest be read in order, because each book builds on the story of the previous book.

Another enjoyable, entertaining, funny and enlightening read with Bertie and neighbors. Easy to give this a thumbs up, what a great writer

This book was both hilarious and heart warming. Makes me want to read all of the series.

Another great addition to the 44 Scotland Street series. Light reads, but always enjoyable. Great to keep up with Bertie and the whole "gang."

The beauty of these books is exactly in their slow pace. The people and the world they live in are a bit more slower, gentler, kinder, forgiving, and peaceful. It is a world many of us who love reading these books would love to live in. Somehow, Alexander McCall Smith managed to make me feel that there is plenty more of goodness than I would normally believe. I read them before going to sleep, as a good night story. I smile even as I write this.

The best thing about this series is generally agreed to be Bertie, the eternal 6 year old. He's a lovely character. This volume reintroduces us to Bertie's travails, but also follows Angus Lordie & Domenica as they marry; Matthew & Elspeth and their triplets; Big Lou and her coffeeshop; and the delightfully narcissistic Bruce as he meets his double and trouble ensues...

It's a fun read for those who've enjoyed the previous books in this series.

Fans of Bertie will be pleased to know he enjoys a couple of small victories in this installment & even picks up some new allies. Love this series & always look forward to the next book.

I keep waiting for these books to progress but development is slow. Still a goo read though.
