The Swallow
A Ghost Story
Book
Despite their differences, the two girls Rose and Polly become friends and explore the uncertain world between life--and death.
In 1960s Toronto, two girls retreat to their attics to escape the loneliness and isolation of their lives. Polly lives in a house bursting at the seams with people, while Rose is often left alone by her busy parents. Soon they discover they're actually neighbors, sharing a wall. They develop an unlikely friendship, and Polly is ecstatic to learn that Rose can actually see and talk to ghosts. Maybe she will finally see one too! But is there more to Rose than it seems? Why does no one ever talk to her? And why does she look so ghostly? When the girls find a tombstone with Rose's name on it in the cemetery and encounter an angry spirit in her house who seems intent on hurting Polly, they have to unravel the mystery of Rose and her strange family before it's too late.

Add a CommentFor starters, Charis Cotter is one of the most talented writer whose book I have ever read. Apart from this book I have also read Charis Cotter's 'The Painting', both of which were exceptional, and of that I have extremely enjoyed. This book's plot twists and mysteries make the story fun and exciting and I especially loved how the author intertwines two very different lives, that turn out to be alike at the same time. Wonderful book, I recommend it for readers of all sorts.
"The Swallow A Ghost Story” by Charis Cotter is my all time favourite book about ghosts. It has an unexpecting twist to it which makes the book even more interesting. Everything about this book is very unique. At first sight, you can tell that the cover is what separates it from the other books. When I first saw the book I thought it had to do with a swallow, which is a type of bird. I thought that because it was in the title and the illustration on the front cover. Little did I know it had to do something way more interesting. Since this is a ghost story I would recommend people who are 10 years and older to read this. If you are interested in reading ghost stories I definitely think you won't regret reading this. I rate this book a 5/5 @TheBookieReadingMonster of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
so lovable and exiting but with a dark twist that makes it one of the most memorable books i have ever read
A well written & charming story of two girls in 1960s Toronto. Two very different girls, Rose & Polly, are newly neighbours. They bond over their common loneliness and interest in the paranormal. Add a conveniently placed graveyard across the street, and the adventure begins!
One haunted house, two girls. One secret hideaway, two creepy attics. Many ghosts. = a story for those with interests in the paranormal.
