This story brings together a group of women via a cross country road trip. Written in a descriptive and dramatic style, this book celebrates women's friendships and the importance of these relationships. For Katherine Givens and the four women about to become her best friends, the adventure begins with a UPS package. Inside is a pair of red sneakers filled with ashes and a note that will forever change their lives. Katherine's oldest and dearest friend, the irrepressible Annie Freeman, left one final request, a traveling funeral and she wants the most important women in her life as pallbearers. From Sonoma to Manhattan, Katherine, Laura, Rebecca, Jill, and Marie will carry Annie's ashes to the special places in her life. At every stop there's a surprise encounter and a small miracle waiting, and as they whoop it up across the country, attracting interest wherever they go, they share their deepest secrets, tales of broken hearts and second chances, missed opportunities and new beginnings. And as they grieve over what they've lost, they discover how much is still possible if only they can unravel the secret Annie left them...."--Back cover.

While the book was a bit repetitive at times, the message and playful story was still invaluable...made me think about who I'd send on my traveling funeral and where they would go! A book all women should read.

I enjoyed the book. I believe the message was that we as women need to take care of ourselves as well as we take care of others. Life is to be celebrated.

Recommended to me by a girl at alternative cancer agency in Vancouver. Gives a lot of thought on death of friends, animals, a Thelma and Louise setting.

Probably one of the WORST books I have ever read. Completely implausible and way over the top. Blech.

Loved it, would make a great book for your book club.

This was a sappy, repetitive, unrealistic, shallow book. I think it was the writing style that turned me off the most. Were they lucky to have a friend that could spend a million dollars on them for her funeral???

Interesting characters, but sometimes the female bonding aspect of the book was a bit over the top.

Made me laugh and cry.
