Doesn't have to be a great read for when things fall apart. This book is a wonderful Buddhism primer. I loved it and yes, it does help when things go awry!

My doctor recommended this book during a recent health crisis. It has helped me on my journey inward to love myself, relax in my situation, manage fear, practice letting go, and see clearly. What a gentle, loving, healing presence Pema brings into the reader’s life.

As a Buddhist myself, it is often difficult to explain certain aspects of Buddhism to those who are unfamiliar with it, and live with the Western state of mind. Buddhism isn't about being a Buddhist, it is about using Buddhism to improve on your own life. Pema is able to explain Buddhist philosophy in a simple, yet beautiful way. We tend to overcomplicate the human experience, and Pema is able to simply it and distill it into its universal and basic structure. I think anyone can benefit from reading this book. Buddhism isn't just for Buddhists. It is about self-discovery.

I am now re-reading this book after several years and find that I discover new insights. A beautiful book to be read slowly and thoughtfully.

A good book for people interested in meditation, Buddhism, or finding new means for accepting change and growing because of life's challenges.
