Nutritionist Rose Riesman meets the Cadeskys, your average Canadian family. Like most parents today, Odelya and Andrew Cadesky both work full time. They also have two teenage daughters. In this 5-part Canada AM series, Rose examines the family's daily eating habits. Breakfast seemed to be a foreign word in this family. Everyone was in a rush to get out the door with all the valid excuses many of us use: I have to take the dog out, I have no time to make a healthy breakfast, It's easier to grab a cereal bar, I'm just not hungry in the morning, etc. What's most interesting is that the entire family was totally aware of their poor eating habits. They really wanted to do better. But every day the same pattern repeated over and over again. Snacks consisted of sweet treats. Lunch was either not eaten or consisted of foods that were craved, most of which were unhealthy choices. Sometimes, dinner picks were good when Odelya and Andrew brainstormed in the afternoon about what to prepare. But often they didn't connect. As a result, dinner often consisted of pasta, rice and more pasta! Sometimes protein was worked into a meal, sometimes not. As well, evenings on the couch were always spent munching on chips, Cheetos or store-bought cake. Riesman takes up the challenge to get this family eating better!
