I'll look up more from this author, but I have to say it seemed that even though the book was very readable and interesting and engaging, the character of Harry wore a halo, while Evelyn certainly did not. So in that way, as an image of a marriage of two individuals, I felt it could have used some explanation maybe or more understanding of Evelyn and her responses to Harry. Maybe something telling us why Harry was so accommodating at all times and she was so enraged. That's the only reason I didn't give it five stars .... just felt Evelyn got a bit of a rough ride.

The story of a marriage - from the first flush or romance to old age. I found myself engrossed in the rhythm as well as the feelings of the husband and wife, in part because the author was so direct and nearly ruthless in describing behaviours, comments, thoughts and feelings.
