A mystery for Millennials - the villains are found with a phone app.

A mystery not for Christians or the tolerant - “Jesus” and “Christ” are the predominant swear words; 2 Christian characters are mocked for the practice of their faith.

This story is crazy!! Crazy. The characters are tough and strong but pushed to the limit. When Rachel's daughter, Kylie, is kidnapped The Chain calls demanding money. Before they'll release Kylie, Rachel must kidnap another child and keep the chain going. How can she kidnap another child and inflict this pain on someone else? But how else will Kylie come home? This thriller will chill you and keep you reading long past your bedtime.

This was a great book and good on the agent that told the author to stop everything and write this into a novel. Fast paced, interesting premise and decent characters. For some readers they missed the 'bread crumbs' left by the author toward the end of the book but don't worry, if you don't pick up on the twist right away you will still have everything explained further on. I was able to pick up on it immediately and really appreciated how the author tied things together. Totally worth it!

If you’re looking for a spine-tingling, edge-of-your-seat read, The Chain by Adrian McKinty delivers. A demented kidnapping scheme demands payment and a new kidnap victim in custody before releasing your child. Set in New England, this quick-paced psychological suspense thriller explores the lengths a parent will go to protect their loved ones. Paramount bought the movie rights so expect to see more buzz about this one. I was first introduced to McKinty through his Sean Duffy mystery series set in 1980’s Belfast, topnotch mysteries for those who enjoy bad boy detectives and a historical setting. #wccls #northplainslibrary

I made it through 13 short chapters in the large print edition and that was enough for me. The plot was very hard to believe and seemed forced. It felt like the author was putting the story on fast forward just to move it along. It was just too unreal for me and the author's writing style was lacking. I couldn't bring myself to read another page.

I haven't read any of this authors books. The "Chain" theme was clever as well as the tie to events. The first half seemed a bit redundant in the reissuing of the "Don't break the chain or you will die" theme. It came about in the second half where there was background in the reason behind the instigators and their history. The story is quick paced and with a little skimming I made it to the end.

I only gave it 3 stars as thought could have been a lot better. Started out very good, held my interest until 3/4 thru the book the author decided should maybe tie in the "who," "why," & how this chain actually started. I found myself flipping back thru a few chapters to see if I had missed something. No. It was as if the author suddenly realized, oops, forgot to add that part. Should have gone back & weaved into the story a lot sooner rather than later.

You know what a chain letter is - send a letter to someone on a list, add your name to the end and move on - but don't break the chain...
This book is about a much more notorious chain - and what a both disturbing and fascinating premise - they've kidnapped your kid, to get them back you'll have to pay a ransom, kidnap someone else's kid and make sure this person keeps the chain going. And perhaps the best part is the twist to the entire story! This is a great read! Don't break the chain!

A New & Noteworthy pick. Your child has been kidnapped and to get her back you must pay a ransom as well as kidnap another child. This Irish author stopped writing because he couldn’t support his family. Well, this blockbuster of a thriller is taking care of that. Movie rights sold.
