Lila Ridgefield lives in an idyllic college town, but not everything is what it seems. Lila isn't what she seems. A student vanished months ago. Now, Lila's husband, Aaron, is also missing. At first these cases are treated as horrible coincidences until it's discovered the student is really the third of three unexplained disappearances over the last few years. The police are desperate to find the connection, if there even is one. Little do they know they might be stumbling over only part of the truth... With the small town in an uproar, everyone is worried about the whereabouts of their beloved high school teacher. Everyone except Lila, his wife. She's definitely confused about her missing husband but only because she was the last person to see his body, and now it's gone.

4 1/2 star read. This unpredictable twisty thriller had me gripped right from the beginning and kept on twisting the narrative so I couldn't figure out what was going to happen next, which is a good thing in a thriller. Lila and her husband Aaron live an idyllic life in a lovely college town in upstate New York. Then Lila discovers that her husband has secrets and the secrets threaten to destroy their marriage. Lila wants out and she wants Aaron dead. But when he disappears, things take on a more menacing he dead or alive? who's sending her threatening notes? and how to get the police to start looking at someone else other than Lila for the missing husband. This was a real page turner and I would have sat and read it from cover to cover in one fell swoop if life didn't get in the way. A terrific read. I enjoyed the ride.

Five star, a great read. I was through the book in 3 days. I love reading and read a lot and this book stands out. Great story, I will definitely be on the lookout for more books from this author.

A good read, at a great pace, and one that could have been deliciously devious but for the distracting editing errors and oversights. E.g., on page 189: "She turned the alarm system BEING back on," and, on page 379, "She tried to ignoreD the pain." Other oversights include overuse of pronouns rather than names, which ultimately make exchanges unnecessarily garbled, leaving the reader detangling conversations in order to determine which character was saying what. Still, the plot made the novel a worthwhile endeavour.

I read this book in under a week! Quick page Turner with a lot of detail. Definitely a story that grabs your attention within a couple short chapters.

Easily likeable and definitely something I'll suggest to friends.

Review excerpt: "As I sat down to draft my review of 'Pretty Little Wife' I realized it was going to have to be somewhat brief. It wasn’t that I didn’t have a lot to say about the book (I do!), it’s that this thriller is so beautifully plotted and executed that saying too much about the book would ruin the reading experience for other people. It’s one of those frustrating situations where I just want to shove the book into the hands of my friends and say, “Just trust me on this one. You’ll love it!”"

NOTE: This author also writes romantic suspense as Helen Kay Dimon.

Okay, I am used to the missing spouse in thrillers, but a wife who is distressed not because her husband is missing, but because his body is not where she left it is a surefire way to get a reader into the book. What the reader will find a storyline with so many twists that at times you just must forget that little voice in your head that keeps saying “Oh, come on…. how could this possible happen?” This is an excellent start to debut author, Darby Kane’s writing.

What do you do when you discover videos of your husband grooming and abusing teenage girls? Lila faces that dilemma before the beginning of this book. Should she immediately report him? Or should she find a way to expose him that will not directly come from her? As she executes her plan of action, her husband disappears. Soon she finds that the investigation spotlight is squarely on her. In addition her favorite true crime podcast swings its focus onto her missing husband. Could his disappearance be connected to three missing area girls? This had some interesting twists and the last 1/3 of the book is riveting. I found the rest of the book meandered a bit, so am taking off a star for that. Would definitely be up for reading Darby Kane's next release.
