I have really enjoyed a couple of the choices for Reese Witherspoon's Book Club, so when I saw this novel was another of her picks, I decided to read it. The plot has some real potential as Hannah, the wife of just less than 2 years, and Bailey, the surly and spoiled 16 year old step-daughter, try to find out why Owen, the husband and father, has disappeared. The story moves fairly quickly at first as the two women discover that Owen is not the person they thought he was. The mystery unravels from there. I found the dialogue simplistic, the extreme devotion of a young wife unfounded, and the repetition unnecessary. A good editor could have turned this into something exceptional.

I was quite surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. It's quick, it's an easy read, and I genuinely wanted to know where on earth this guy went?! It's perfect for people who want a beach read that has little to do with romance and more to do with secrets, lies, and revelations.

Why would an author who thinks her readers are so stupid that they can't follow the story unless she beats them to death with repeated information (yes her husband left I got it the first 150 times she said it) bother to write the book at all? Her editor would have done her a great service if she had told Dave to cut 100 pages.

I liked this book. It was very different from her other books, but it held my interest till the end. I look forward to her next book.
