Summary

This tale is one of a physically deformed "hunchback" orphan who is adopted by the religious radical Judge Frollo. He lives in isolation in the bell tower of the Notre Dame Cathedral to ring its bells, which suits Frollo just fine. However, his life of seclusion is broken when he wanders down for the Festival of Fools, in which he befriends a gypsy with low status but a heart of gold. He learns to reject Frollo's teachings that appearance is everything, learning to look past first impressions and determine good or evil through how people act towards others, rather than their reputation and the facade they maintain.
