As a big Dean Koontz fan this book was disappointing. I do think this was a good concept but it was lost around the fragile way this story was told. On the first half of the book I a hard time getting into it because he dedicated a page and a half to each character. First he introduced the character, then he spent two or three paragraphs on their back stories. Then they see something horrible or something horrible happens to them and he moves onto describing the next character. The second half of this book they somehow go forward in time, which apparently happens to this building every 38 years and things get a whole lot weirder. I found the worst part was this couple who lived in the building but were eating at a restaurant nearby discussing one of the character's dead mother's book was completely unnecessary. I never felt any empathy for any of these characters because there were so many and it was hard to remember who these characters are. I sincerely hope Dean Koontz returns to writing books based on a much smaller cast.
