2001 Space Odyssey is brilliant to say the least, in the sort of way in which you can only really appreciate it after you have sat through the entirety of the movie. Though seeming long and drawn out in the moment, one must absorb the content of the movie afterwards to deeply appreciate what was in front of you at the time. This movie is one of the few space movies that I have seen that signifies the deeply horrifying void that is space, with the scenes that take place out in the vacuum of space being completely silent other than dialog, even going to the point of leaving out the score, something that is commonly sitting in the background to give atmosphere, is gone in those times in the abyss. Kubrick once again delivers a brilliant film, and overall is 4/5 stars @Rook of the Hamilton Public Library's Teen Review Board 2001 is a great movie that offers an abstract depiction of human evolution, and therefore becomes a very thought provoking film. It also has a lot of early commentary on artificial intelligence, and the possibility of what might happen if machines learn to learn. Although very long and slow paced, the movie set the tone for many sci-fi movies to come. The visuals were incredible for the time, and the story, although confusing and hidden at times, is extremely engaging. Not to mention the fact that the music used became iconic in other space movies, and of course parodied endlessly. 4/5 @ecozones of the Teen Review Board of the Hamilton Public Library
