A typical Honorverse novel with Weber's characteristic writing style. Weber quite enjoys dialogue and there is a lot of it; sometimes you wish he would just get on with the plot. Weber also likes a large cast and sometimes it is difficult to keep up with all of the characters. Fortunately, there is a character list at the end of the book. However, for all that it does end with the fast-paced action he is known for. When it comes to describing military action Weber is unsurpassed and he delivers in the last one hundred or so pages of the book. Without wishing to give away much of the plot, the novel follows Victor Cachat and Anton Zilwicki once again as they attempt to infiltrate the Mesan Alignment to determine what the secret organization is planning. Naval action is limited in this novel, but if you enjoy following Cachat's antics you will find the read rewarding.
