Whatever your expectations of this book, I'm willing to bet that they won't be met. The writing itself is turgid, awkward, seemingly disorganized--it doesn't flow. The book was published simultaneously in eight languages, and the fault might lie in the translation rather than the ability of the original author. But more important than that, the book doesn't really deal substantially with resolving the corruption, hypocrisy and crimes of the hierarchy of the church. Maybe one problem is that the author is homosexual and seems to be more interested in the relationships among the clergy than in those between the clergy and the church membership. Probably the most interesting revelations for me were that homosexuality in the Vatican staff, from the pope on down has pretty definitely been established at at least 80%, and that the battles between factions of cardinals, bishops and other church personnel are very often between the conservative gays who want to keep everything covered up, and the more liberal gays who are willing to reveal what goes on. One thing for sure, you'll be more unsettled, upset, enraged--and certainly confused--after reading this book than you were before.
