This was not my favorite Billingham crime/thriller novel. It is a bit too long and occasionally slow moving without a lot of action, although there are the usual twists and turns. It is interesting that the reader knows who the killer is less than 1/2 way through. Thorne is his usual self, struggling to stay true to his beliefs and his conscience and is too often his own worst enemy. Is that why we like him? I enjoyed the fact that he now has a love interest which is a work in progress and that Thorne finally learns how his father died.
