Midway through her fortieth year, May finds herself at a crossroad and decides to visit her four friends in order to see how her friends have settled into their lives so she might better settle into her own. She is a graduate of a Landscape architectural program, single, childless, living with her widowed father in the family home that has difficult family history attached to it, she has a suitcase called Grendel of Beowulf fame, she is somewhat reclusive. We learn a lot about trees and plants, she is a lover of word and their original meanings, she coins the twitter handle fortnight friends although she eschews social media. This is a charming thoughtful book.
