University gardener May is given a month of leave when a poem written about a yew tree in a campus garden wins a literary prize. Choosing to visit friends from her past, the book is filled with journeys, thoughts on friendship and remembrance—plus many thoughts on trees and gardening. Short chapters move the narrative along, covering all kinds of topics, yet linked seamlessly, as introvert May blossoms a bit with every page of musing. Beautiful.
